I conduct research on agricultural markets and the economics and political economy of agricultural and natural resource policy. My published work includes empirical studies of quota schemes in the United States for peanuts and tobacco, analysis of the effects of the Clean Water and Clear Air Acts, compensation schemes in the poultry industry, U.S. agricultural development in the 19th century, and the economics of bees. Currently, I am studying institutions that address collective action problems posed by agricultural drainage networks and flood protection along the Mississippi River.
